A quick-thinking husband managed to catch his suicidal wife at the moment she decided to jump from the balcony a Chinese tower block.

The man managed to grab the distraught woman as she hung over the fourth floor balcony in Changjiang, southern China's Hainan Island.

According to the woman�s husband they were arguing when his wife suddenly went to leap from the balcony.

He rushed forward and was able to grab one of her legs � leaving her dangling over the drop below with her trousers half pulled off.

He managed to hold onto her for ten minutes while emergency services arrived. When until firefighters arrived grabbed hold of the woman and helped to pull her back to safety. The woman was then comforted by concerned family and friends in the staircase before being transferred to hospital...

Ghana - A teenage orphaned girl with a severe facial deformity is to receive life-changing surgery thanks to a fundraising campaign initiated by a social networking website Tumblr.

The Ghana orphanage caring for 13-year-old Esinam needed to raise $10,000 to pay for surgery, but managed to raise only $130 in donations. Then, a Tumblr user turned to the web community and helped to accumulate even over $10,000 in less than a week.

The kind-hearted blogger was able to boost the orphan's surgery fund by encouraging more than 450 people to donate.

The deformity suffered by the 13-year-old has prevented her from attending school.

No one is sure what is causing the mass growing on her face, because Esinam's parents died when she was younger. When the grandmother who helped raise her died from a stroke, the teenager went to live at the orphanage.

He added that an elderly woman who has been helping care for her was also relieved to hear that the teenager would finally get her surgery and achieve her dream of returning to school.

According to report, Mikel was shown a property for sale by this close friend.

The footballer then went on to inspect the property and was satisfied with it.

He was said to have given this friend a cheque of N100m to purchase the property.

The friend after clearing the money has reportedly disappeared into thin air and till date Mikel is yet to hear from him.

According to a source who confirmed the story, Mikel still finds it difficult to believe as they were very close, adding that the friend is no longer seen in town and his phone numbers have been unreachable.

The source also said Mikel is still very much busy to come to Nigeria to report the case to the police.

PHOTOS: Activists Embarrass Governor Fashola At Baba Omojola's Burial, Call Him Thief

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola was embarrssed at the home late political activist, Baba Omoloja.

As Fashola arrived for Omoloja's lying-in-state at his family's residence in Surulere, Lagos State, he was greeted with embarrassing songs from activists.

The governor alongside his convoy were unable to gain access into the premises because a van that contained speakers blaring comradely songs for the activists at the venue was blocking the way.

The activists insisted Fashola alight from his car and walk into the premises like others did as as he stepped down from his car, walking into the premises, the activists started chanting anti-oppressor government songs.Some lines in their songs tagged the governor "Ole-ole", translating to the calling the governor a thief.

The activists also substituted imperative words into their chorus, asking Mr. Fashola to leave the event to avoid his further embarrassment.

It was not known whether the governor had intention to stay long enough to address participants, but he left soon as the chants by activists gained more tempo.

When asked why they embarrassed Mr. Fashola at the event, the activists said that the governor was only a hypocrite pretending to be familiar with the late Baba Omojola.

A comrade said:"You won't believe they (government) don't allow Baba into their office whenever he was there on pressing public issues that affect the masse. But now that Baba is dead, Fashola is now here to show fake familiarity"

"They did same when Gani Fawehinmi died. They hated him when he was alive because he spoke bitter truth to them and also challenged them to court especially on fake Toronto certificate of Tinubu, but after his death, they began pretending they were best of friends with him and began creating park and programs to deceive the public", a civil society leader who was present during the incidence said.

"They are all hypocrites and we will continue to embarrass them if they won't stop insulting us to our face by pretending they were friends with our gone heroes",a protester said.

The Lagos State Government tarred the Chief Onitana Street where Baba Omojola lived as part of gestures for his funeral. During a brief chat with journalist, Akinola Omojola son of the deceased commented that it takes a prominent person to die for Government to repair a road in Nigeria.

UNBELIEVABLE: 18-Year-Old Boy Kills Father With Concrete Block

A 56-year-old father, Mr Ayodele Adetoyinbo was killed on Wednesday by his 18-year-old son, Olalekan Adetoyinbo, who resides in the Irojo neighbourhood of Ilesa, Osun, after a heated argument.

According to report, the boy had a heated argument with his father after he came back from school and he was accused by his father of stealing some empty containers.

The boy reportedly hit his father on the head with broken concrete blocks and the man could not recover from the injury inflicted on him. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died.

The boy has since been arrested by the police for interrogation.

DSP Folashade Odoro, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Osun, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mrs Dorothy Gimba, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Osogbo on Friday.

Odoro said that the suspect was arrested by a team of police detectives attached to the Police 'B' Division in Ijamo, Ilesa, for murder, adding that the boy had made a confessional statement to the police.

"Argument ensued between the boy and his father; he hit his father's head with cement blocks and the man sustained serious injury on his head which led to his death," he said.

The PPRO said that the police commissioner had since ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident, adding that the matter would later be referred to the court for prosecution.

Ex-ASUU president’s death: Iyayi’s kinsmen demand N50 billion compensation from Kogi

The death of the former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Festus Iyayi, has continued to cause outcry in the country and his kinsmen are not left out.

According to reports, members of Professor Iyayi’s home community speaking through their traditional ruler, Samuel Obade I, the Onojie of Ugbegunland, are demanding that a compensation of N50 billion be paid to the family of the late professor by the Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada.

The former ASUU president died earlier this week in a crash caused by reckless driving on the part of some members of the governor’s convoy.

The community in a letter dated November 13, to the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Abuja, on the death of its son in an automobile accident with the governor’s security details, called for a thorough investigation for Nigerians to know the actual cause of Iyayi’s death.

This came as eminent Nigerians, including the supervising Minister of Education, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, continued to lament the untimely and tragic death of Professor Festus Iyayi.

Idris Wada Pleads To Train Drivers In His Convoy

 

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials, Kogi state Governor Idris Wada has pleaded with them to commence training the drivers in his convoy.

It will be recalled that the latest road accident involving his convoy happened this Tuesday, November 12, 2013, as the former President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Festus Iyayi, was killed.

The Corps Marshal and chief Executive of FRSC, Mr. Osita Chidoka, disclosed this information while delivering a speech before reporters, marking the 2013 Africa Road Safety and World Day.

He blamed the frequent road crashes involving the governor’s convoy on unqualified drivers.

Chidoka denied reports which blamed the governor’s convoy for the cause of the accident which terminated the life of of Iyayi, noting that the corps had commenced investigation into the fatal crash.

The results will be made public, the official promised.

He regretted the non-participation of Kogi convoy drivers in its training scheme, a situation he attributed to the ugly trend which had also occurred in the convoys of the Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly in recent times.

He said the commission had embarked on training convoy drivers, so that they could be better drivers.

"Of the 700 convoy drivers we trained in the last two years, from that day till date, none of them have been involved in any road crash. The only crash we have seen so far from convoys are from people that have not attended our training," Mr. Chidoka said.

VIDEO: LASTMA Official Caught On Tape Collecting Bribe

An official of the Lagos State Transport Management Agency (LASTMA) has been caught red-handed demanding bribe from a motorist who is suspected to have broken the Lagos traffic law deliberately to expose corrupt law enforcement agents in the state.

The motorist, driving on Alfred Rewane Road, Ikoyi, Lagos state, was stopped at the Golden Gate Chinese Restaurant junction, recorded an amateur video and sent it to the iWitness platform of Channels Television.

The yet-to-be identified LASTMA official accused the motorist of beating the traffic light.

As penalty, the motorist was charged the sum of N8,000 and was escorted to the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) to withdraw the cash to settle the officer.

It will be recalled that a police officer, Chris Omeleze, caught on film soliciting for inducement by an unknown motorist was dismissed by the Nigerian Police Force.

PHOTO and VIDEO: Extremely rare Asian 'UNICORN' spotted in Vietnam for first time in 12 years

The endangered saola is a mix between cattle and antelope and is one of the rarest and most threatened mammals on the planet

An extremely rare animal known as the 'Asian Unicorn' has been spotted for the first time this century in Vietnam.

The twin-horned saola is critically endangered, but the recent sighting has sparked hopes for conservationists of a recovery for the species.

The rare beast, which is a cousin of cattle but looks like an antelope, is known as the Asian Unicorn because of its elusiveness.

It was filmed in September after a camera trap was set up by WWF and the Vietnamese government’s Forest Protection Department in the Central Annamite mountains.

Dr Van Ngoc Thinh, WWF-Vietnam’s country director, said: “When our team first looked at the photos we couldn’t believe our eyes. Saola are the holy grail for South-east Asian conservationists so there was a lot of excitement."

He added: “This is a breath-taking discovery and renews hope for the recovery of the species.”

 

The saola has two sharp horns which can reach 50 centimetres in length, giving it the look of a fictional unicorn.

The last confirmed sighting of one in the wild was in 1999, from camera-trap photos taken in Laos.

One of the creatures was reportedly captured in August 2010 by villagers in Laos, but it died a few days after.

Dang Dinh Nguyen, director of Quang Nam’s Saola Nature Reserve, said: “This is an historic moment in Vietnam’s efforts to protect our extraordinary biodiversity, and provides powerful evidence of the effectiveness of conservation efforts in critical saola habitat.”

The WWF runs a law enforcement program which recruits forest guards from the local community to prevent illegal hunting.

Since 2011, they have removed 30,000 snares and destroyed more than 600 illegal hunters' camps.

Experts believe there are only a few left in the wild, perhaps less than 100.

The saola was discovered in 1992 by a joint team from Vietnam’s Ministry of Forestry and WWF surveying the forests of Vu Quang, near Vietnam's border with Laos, when they found the unusual skull in a hunter's home.
